The Effects of Family Resilience on Depression in Family: Focused on the Family of Mentally Disabled

Abstract
This study sought to examine the effect of family resilience on depression of families with mentally disabled person. For this, the study conducted survey and analysis among 163 persons from families with mentally disabled person using mental rehabilitation facilities located at Seoul and Gyeonggi areas. Survey period was from July to October 2018. As a result, the study had following findings. Firstly, of belief system, patterns of organization and process of communication - subfactors of family resilience- belief system had the most effect at 3.44 point, followed by process of communication at 3.37 points and patterns of organization at 3.28 points. Secondly, family resilience(¥â=-.492) had an effect on depression of families with mentally disabled person in the level of p<.001. Lastly as a result of gradual regression analysis as to the effect of sub-factors of family resilience on depression, belief system turned out to be the most important predictor at the Model 4 in which pure effect of individual variables was identified. Based on this research outcomes, the study suggested measures to intervene at social welfare implementation so as to reduce depression of families looking after mentally disabled persons.
